Engineering drives everything around us, so skilled engineers are in high demand and it鈥檚 a smart choice for your future career. With a qualification in engineering, you鈥檒l use innovation, problem solving, science, and maths, to make a difference every day.
Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering involves the design, development, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Working on different machinery, engines, aircraft, cars, medical devices, tools and more, a mechanical engineer鈥檚 role is diverse. They take a product from start to finish, incorporating aesthetics, functionality, ergonomics, and durability to solve everyday problems.
Electrical & Electronic Engineering
From mobile phones to TVs, and electric cars to power stations, electrical and electronic engineers are essential in our modern world! With a greener-looking future, there鈥檚 a growing demand for these engineers. Dealing with electricity, conduction, and electro-magnetism, they build and maintain electrical systems, products and components for a variety of purposes.
You can find details about domestic electrical installation courses to become an electrician on our Construction page.
Civil Engineering
Overlapping with the construction industry, civil engineers support the infrastructure of our towns and cities. They design, develop and manage structures, from bridges to stadiums, and tunnels to skyscrapers. They use a range of technology and materials to engineer their creations, considering geotechnical, ecological and structural factors, which makes it a very diverse occupation.
Automotive Engineering
Automotive engineers are highly sought after in our modern world. Designing, developing, testing, building, and repairing vehicles; they understand engine systems, vehicle chassis, fuel technology, thermodynamics and more. From cars to motorbikes, and electric vehicles to motorsport racing, this is a fast-paced sector.
Aeronautical Engineering
In the age of unmanned aircraft, space exploration, satellites, and passenger air travel, the sky鈥檚 the limit for an aeronautical engineer. From understanding the theory of flight to avionic systems and aerodynamics, this highly specialist field centres around innovation, safety, and cutting-edge equipment, and it鈥檚 set to grow as technology progresses.
Fabrication and Welding
Cutting, joining, and shaping metal and composite materials for the engineering and construction industries makes fabrication and welding a crucial role. Using a range of processes and working with materials like steel and alloys, fabricators and welders work across a variety of sectors, with numerous job opportunities.

Engineering
There are lots of different teaching techniques at college and the engineering facilities are really good. The workshops are well-equipped for practical work, with industry standard equipment like CAD 3D design programmes and tools for building circuitry online. I鈥檓 currently being sponsored by Tata Steel and hope to be offered an apprenticeship after this course.
