In a nutshell
This one-day course will provide foundational level knowledge on Azure concepts; core Azure services; core solutions and management tools; general security and network security; governance, privacy, and compliance features; Azure cost management and service level agreements.
This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

...anyone over 19, living in Wales and in employment. The usual salary limit of £32,371 does not apply for this course.
...individuals who want to demonstrate foundational knowledge of cloud services and how Microsoft Azure provides those services.
Course content
This course is delivered by virtual classroom. Virtual classrooms are equivalent to face-to-face classroom courses, but delivered in an online environment.
Course Duration: 1 day
Learning will consist of the following modules:
Module 1: Cloud Concepts
Module 2: Core Azure Services
Module 3: Core Solutions
Module 4: General security and networking features
Module 5: Identity, Governance, Privacy, and Compliance
Module 6: Azure Pricing and Lifecycle
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the basics of cloud computing and Azure, and how to get started with Azure’s subscriptions and accounts.
- Describe the advantages of using cloud computing services, learning to differentiate between the categories and types of cloud computing, and how to examine the various concepts, resources, and terminology that are necessary to work with Azure architecture.
- Outline the core services available with Microsoft Azure.
- Discuss the core solutions that encompass a wide array of tools and services from Microsoft Azure.
- Describe the general security and network security features, and how you can use the various Azure services to help ensure that your cloud resources are safe, secure, and trusted.
- Discuss the identity, governance, privacy, and compliance features, and how Azure can help you secure access to cloud resources, what it means to build a cloud governance strategy, and how Azure adheres to common regulatory and compliance standards.
- Discuss the factors that influence cost, tools you can use to help estimate and manage your cloud spend, and how Azure’s service-level agreements (SLAs) can impact your application design decisions.
Entry Requirements
This course has no formal prerequisites. It is designed for individuals who want to demonstrate foundational knowledge of cloud services and how Microsoft Azure provides those services.
You will need access to internet, a windows computer and webcam/microphone.
Additional information
The PLA programme intends to provide quality career advice and guidance to participants before, during and after their learning.
Prior to being enrolled onto your PLA funded course, a individual learning plan will be discussed with you to ensure that the right learning has been considered.
This will include a general discussion on the following topics:
- formal education or qualifications in related fields
- prior experience within the industry or field
- career aspirations
- dedication of time required
- access to internet, windows computer and webcam/microphone
This will also include specific discussion on the below areas for this course:
- any prior experience with cloud computing
- usage of any cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- interest in pursuing additional Azure qualifications
